A lone figure trudged along the high, snowy pass, not seeming to notice his cloak was streaming behind him in the wind. The man's breath frosted in thick puffs, seeming almost like he was trailing smoke. Tam knew he was close to freezing to death and that choosing this path had been foolish (he had known that from the start). The thing was, he didn't really care. He hadn't slept for days because of the harsh climate - he also didn't care about that. He didn't have any idea where he was headed - once again, he didn't care about that either. The bleak landscape fit his mood perfectly. He was passively searching for a cave to rest in... although it really wouldn't upset him if he didn't. He kept walking for a time, subconsciously fingering his bastard sword and swearing under his breath when the freezing metal contacted his finger through the hole in his glove.
Eventually he saw an opening in the mountain, a black hole within which anything could hide. He knew that the chances were that the cave was inhabited by one of the many terrors of the mountains, but he actually kind of wanted to kill something. Or maybe he wanted it to kill him- he wasn't sure. He strode into the cave in a foolishly confident manner, holding his sword in his hand. The cave was empty, which Tam found curious, but he really didn't care. He pulled off his glove and reached into his pouch, withdrawing a crystal. He activated it and then swore loudly as a small amount of fire burnt his hand instead of going into the corner like it was supposed to. He shook his hand for a few minutes - until he stopped caring about that to. The cave had already started to get warmer. He curled up in a ball in near the back, knowing that the cave would keep enough heat for him to be warm even after the fire went out in a few minutes. Tam then zoned out, completely lost in thought, wondering why the gods chose to give him such a dismal fate - his thoughts feeding his hate for the world that had rejected him...
His thoughts slowly faded into dreams as his fatigue overpowered him.

"I take it from the way you huddle by your fire that you don't like this kind of weather," came a voice near the back of a cave. What could have been mistaken as a large rock began to move revealing a man, or rather a creature, wrapped in a large black cloak.
Jonok had observed the elf enter the cave, half frozen, and decided to let him get comfortable before introducing himself. He lifted a hand, which began to glow blue, the entrance to the cave froze over except for a small hole large enough for a person to crawl through. The temperature in the cave began to rise quickly.

Tam jumped his feet, his blades springing to his hand as he spun to face the creature. He idly wondered whether he might not get that fight after all. After a moment he recognized "the intruder" (even though he was probably the one who intruded) as a Cereash. He lowered his weapons - slightly. It took him a moment to think of the words for a reply - it had been a very long time since he had had contact with sentient beings. "I don't care what the weather wishes to be like, to tell the truth. Would you like me to leave now?"

"Nay, stay if you wish. I was only resting. My apologies if I startled you." Jonok reached into his cloak's magical pocket and produced a skin filled with Cereashian fire ale. He tossed the skin to the elf. "Take a swig of that, it'll warm ya up." He slowly got to his feet and moved into the light of the small fire and sat back down with his back against the wall. "Should give ya a little energy, too."

Terrag flying over the forest and frozen ground. Terrag enjoyed flying in the middle of the night, when the moon what full and the sky was clear. Times like this is when Terrag felt human. his mind was clear. The night was quiet. everything was peaceful. the only sound Terrag hear was a "twang" before pain exploded from his side. Terrag let out a cry of pain that was heard from all around. the only thing that drowned out his dry was the twang of more bows. more pain. The last thing Terrag remembered was flying through a sheet of ice and landing at the feet of two strangers. Then it all went black.

Tam's blade was at the newcomer's throat even before all the ice had come to rest. Then he realized the creature was unconscious and turned back to Jonok. "I really don't care about whether I stay or go." He stowed the skin in his pack without drinking and glanced at the limp figure. "I guess you probably want me to assist you in helping him, don't you?" he asked with a sigh.

The was a huffing sound near the cave entrance, then came a loud, "Oth Matera Fuk!" An ancient and time-honored Old Kalorian curse. A figure landed almost gracefully at the cave entrance, either having fallen from the top or jumped. A massive figure strode in, clade head to toe in what appeared to be fine if a bit batterd Kalorian fur, bits of golden armor poking out. Long brown hair tied back like all Kalorians wear it, a massive broadsword and bow slung on his back. He looked at the three figures. When it spoke it was a noble and entrancing voice. " My quarry, and elfani and...some being I am not quite familar with. Tell me elfani, Fabianite or Eroad?" His Common was intermingled with Old Kalorian, marking him as a very tranditional Kalorian and his emmense size and stature, further marked him as a Paladin. However, seeing as Paladins had not truly made a public apperance yet, that little tid bit wouldn't be known.

"Hey, hey, hey! I said you could take a swig, lad, not take the whole skin," Jonok said as the elf slid the skin into his pouch. "And if there's one thing you learn from this encounter, it's that Cereash don't take kindly to those who come between them and their ale." Jonok then looked down at whatever it was the crashed through the ice, but just as he looked down something else landed at the mouth of the cave. A human. A very large human who seemed to be radiating magic, though he did not appear to be a wizard. "What do they feed you humans these days. You seem to get bigger and bigger," Jonok said with a chuckle.

What the heck! thought Tam. i don't see a living soul for two months then I get the bad luck to meet three in five minutes! He removed the skin from his pack and tossed it back to Jonok. "Then thanks but no thanks. Is it usual for the high mountain passes to be this crowded or are the gods - curse them - just picking on me again?" He turned to the human at the cave mouth. Old Kalorian... it had been even longer since he had heard that language. "I would seem I am neither since I'm certainly not a Fabianite, but it also seems that the gods do not wish for there to be any Erodaen," he said vehemently - spitting after the word gods. "And who the heck are you? You are quite a ways from Kalor, old one."

Terrag had been conscious for about ten seconds. More than enough time for him to fully recover. Within seconds he was on his feet with "life" in hand. looking strait at the being at the mouth of the cave. "You with the holy light forming around your body( Terrag can see the holy power with his red eye) . You are in my way, So if you would be so kind, I would like to be getting on my way. Without anyone having to die here. Death and I are not on good terms."

Suddenly, with a very loud and athoritative voice, Jonok said, "There is no need for violence here! Lower your weapon!" His eyes were hidden by his goggles, but it was better that way, for on them was the kind of look that you never forget. A look, not of anger, but of disappointment. Of great disappointment.

The Kalorian regarded Terrag with barely concealed loathing, and then turned to regard Jonok with polite curiousity, "I do not know you, perhaps you should introduce yourself prior to ordering us about, Master....?"
Master, used in place of Mister, is a term of implied respect to a stranger. The Paladin, while speeking positioned himself center in the doorway incase Terrag tried to make a run for it.

"If you pardon my asking, but Guardian of Gorgraz? If you are what you say you are...you've done a pretty bad job. Kalor gets invaded by the Orcs...you weren't there, we get invaded and taken over by the Elves....OUR WORST ENEMY, and still you, the self proclaimed "Guardian" are where? Guarding someone else? Cereashian High Council, Kalor doesn't recognize you as a legitimate governing body. What do you govern? WHERE do you govern?!" This creatures proclamation of a guardianship of Gorgraz had struck a chord in the Kalorians heart. Guardian...false guardian....

Jonok's head lowered slightly and his hands formed into formed into fists. "You think that doesn't bother me every moment of the day? The son's and daughters of Palador being killed in such great numbers. Thats why I was in this cave, to escape the Cereashian populace, some of which are quick to criticize." He paused for a moment, "I should have listened to Talrot," he said to himself. "We would have been there for you, but apparently even the hearts of Cereash can be bought for the right price. Three of the members of the council were bought out by the orcs, then by the elves. Their behavior has been discovered and dealt with and a new council members have been appointed. It won't mean much, but I apologize for my and the council's arrogance. I would have come myself, but I alone would have been no aid." He stood for a moment studying the floor of the cave. "If you'll excuse me, I'm going to continue my self-loathing." He turned and began walking deeper into the cave.

"At least you both still have a people," Tam muttered to himself underneath his breath. He sheathed his swords and leaned back against the cave wall, pinching the bridge of his nose with one hand. It was rather ironic, all he wanted was to stay in a cave until he got well enough to continue over the ridge and instead he was stuck in the middle of a confrontation of zealots. He wanted to scream at them all - to tell them that their beliefs were pointless. He wanted to explain that he had once been like that.... then he had learned the hard way that the gods did want they wanted with no regard to how much some one had done for them. Instead, however, Tam simply waited for them to finish and let him be on his way.

The Kalorian looked at Jonok coldly as Jonok moved off deeper into the cave. Normally a kind and helpful man, the years of strife and anguish have made most Kalorians cynical and cold towards those who did not aid them and had the ablity to. And thus Kalor has become something of an isolationist nation, shunning Zargon and even the Dwarves, their traditional allies. They feel that since the world didn't care, and they freed themselves from the elves they don't need the world. The exception in the Free Elves, whom have aided Kalor during every war, even with their number so reduced.
"Elfani," The Kalorian said more kindly. "You claim that the Free Elves have been defeated? We have not seen them since the Withdrawal, but we assumed that you managed alright. What happened? Kalor's Council would want to know if something foul befell their Most Esteemed Ally!"

For the first time in a long time, Tam cared about something. In fact, his rage blossomed at the Kalorians words. "Your most esteemed ally!?! The reason we disappeared was that after we had become much depleted from helping defend your homeland we didn't have the numbers to defend our forests! When the battle came to us, Kalor was not there! It was a massacre! Only a few hundred survived!" Tam's eyes were flickering like a forest fire by this time. "Still - as we huddled in hiding - we kept hope! We thought Kalor would surely send someone to seek news and we would get help! That never happened! The times have been hard and reduced our numbers more! We even cried out to the good gods - curses upon them - for help... for all the good it did! They, like Kalor, forsook us! As a result, the Erodaen consists of a small, leaderless group of nomads that numbers less than 200! So yes, the Erodaen have been defeated! You may tell your counsel that what befell them was trust and upholding foolish ideals!"

"YOU WERE MASSACRED!? We are only barely surviving! The Knights shattered! Outriders killed! We have to call upon the militia to fill our ranks. We barely can defend out own lands. At any time, ANY!, you elves could have settled in our forests, helped rebuild Kyt or contruct your own city." The Kalorian lowered his voiced to a quited hiss. "Never blaspheme the Gods, you have no idea the hells our Gods have been throgh for us! Palador is crippled, the Pantheon fights a daily battle to keep evil at bay, the Neutrals have yet to intervene...it's only a matter of time before the pendulum swings again! I will tell my council that the Elves, the Mighty Erodaen, have fallen..." He sighed "We will send what aid we can...don't expect much...but we will try."

Jonok stopped his trek deeper into the cave. His heart had skipped a beat and a shiver had run down his spine. Something was going on. Something that could be worse than all the things they were arguing about... combined. He turnned and began walking back. His speed kept picking up until he stopped when he reached the group. "I think we should stop agruing about the past and prepare for the future. I feel all is not well." With those words he stepped past the large Kalorian and out into the bitter cold. With a sudden burst of air, he disappeared out of sight above the mouth of the cave and was gone.
He didn't know what he had felt but it had been a bad feeling. Talrot will know, he has to know. He was right before...

Tam shook his head, "Whats the point in preparing when the gods are just going to play with you again? ... don't bother trying to send aid - you can not help the Eroadaen unless you have a spell that will restore our numbers. You would not be able to find them in any case... I'm not sure I even can. They wander, moving to where ever there is safety and resources." He sighed, "As for the gods, I remember when I used to serve them. I gave them everything I could and in return they took my brother from me. I continued to serve them and they took everything else I had. So why should I not curse them... they have cursed me." Tam glanced surreptitiously at the other man, who had been curiously quiet during the last few minutes.

Terrag anger was boiling. " I was here before any of you were thought of, I Have seen almost all the horrors of this world. I have seen nations rise and fall. I have seen your so called Gods. I have talked with death. Kalorian Your Gods have not seen hell. They know nothing of it, They sit enthroned above while there people fight and die for them. Erodaen you are cursed? You.
