The wind whistled over the rolling hills of the southern end of the Kalorian Plains, the world was silent save for the whipping of the numerous banners. Two small armies faced off. On one side, on top of a hill was the rag-tag Kalorian Army, it's mixed units very varied and colorful. One uniti might have a handful of militia swordsmen, a few axemen, maybe a former foot knight ot two. Archer units were a motley assortment of former Outrider Archers, huntsmen, and militia. This rag-tag army was lead by one, General Jaymes Brand, the Last Queen's Knight. Jaymes was one of the few knights who still clung to the dying traditions of the Kalorian Knights, and he was distrusted for this. Though not even the Council of Five could deny his uncanny tactical ablities.
Ine depression at the foot of the hill stood the larger and more uniform elven army. This army has been raiding villages for months now and Jaymes had finally caught it. Though outnumbered, the General was desperate to win some sort of victory to raise the crumbling nations morale. At the sound of a horn the Kalorian Army yelled their warcrys and charged. Jaymes' Knights leading the charge, their precious Holylances, the only remaining relics of Palador, clutch tightly in their hands.

Mat was on the outer edges of the forest, watching the whole thing. He wasn't really supposed to be out this far, but Tam had slipped out again and Mat had snuck out to look for him. But now he crouched in the upper boughs of a tree on the edge of the forest, watching with growing horror the spectacle laid out before him. From this angle Mat could see clearly the 60 or so elves hidden behind a rocky outcropping waiting to ambush the oblivious Kalorian army after they had past. He knew what the Kalorians would assume of him, him being an elf himself, but couldn't sit by while the Kalorians were slaughtered. He had to act.
Mat leapt out of the tree, firing an arrow with unerring accuracy into the group of ambushers as he did, and landed running with his elven reflexes. He heard shouts as both armies noticed him, but he kept on running, firing arrows as he ran straight for the ambushing group. When he got to fifty yards he threw his bow aside and swept out his great sword. He smashed into the elves hard, swinging as he did. Unfortunately, his momentum was so great that he was carried into the center of the ambushing party before he could stop. He parried frantically as the other elves pressed in on him, taking quite a few minor hits himself. 'At least the Kalorians know there's enemies here now,' he thought to himself as he realized he couldn't keep this up for long. With a bellowed cry of, "FOR THE ERODAEN!!!!" Mat leapt upon his foes with abandon, hacking and parrying crazily, not daring to hope he would survive.

Jaymes sat atop his war-steen and frowned as he saw mat. "Erodaen Bastard. Send a reserve unit to help him!"
"A full Unit sir?" A Captain asked nervously. Jaymes just glared at him. At once a block of motley infantry broke off from the reserves ,which were beginning a second charge on he main lines, and began an assault on the Elves attacking Mat.

The fighting had slowed with the evil elves forming a tight circle around him , eying him (or more especially his great sword) with a new respect. Mat wasn't relieved though, for he knew if he didn't do anything soon that the circle would come charging in for him, and he also knew that he wouldn't survive that charge. He began chanting in elvish, even though he didn't think he would be able to hold concentration when the elves inevitably charged at the sound of his spell casting. Fortunately, however, the reserve unit crashed into the back of the group at that moment, drawing the elves attention for the few seconds Mat needed. As the elves turned to charge him, they suddenly found themselves sinking as the area around Mat turned into a slippery patch of mud. As the elves floundered in the substance Mat began casting again, this time on a spell much more complicated. As the elves managed to climb out of the mud, the ground on the outside of the circle began to tremble and crack. An earth elemental (though a fairly small one) rose out of the earth, immediately turning on the elves with its great strength. Mat took up his sword and turned to the elves that had made it through the mud.

a bright light appeared not thirty yards away. A man in shiny white and blue armor fell to the ground. His blue eyes shot open and he took in all that was around him. He lept to his feet, drew his broadsword in his right hand, and his rapier in his left. He didnt know how he had got here, several hundred miles from his first destination, but he resolved to figure that out after he got out of this alive. He readied his sword and grinned in anticipation as the enemy closed.

Falon Winter's blue eyes turned a sky blue color. He looked to the sky as an erie blue light began to shine from his hand. He tossed his rapier high in the air, then jumped up also, spining, but as he came around to wear the elves could see him again, he had four ice knives in his hand, razor sharp, and frozen solid. Before he hit the ground he had threw them as hard as he could, straight for the throats of the enemy elves. He hit the ground and stuck out his hand, in just enough time to catch his rapier, which he held high, blocking with his broadsword, as he rushed in the direction the knives had just flown.

"What is it will Kalor and all this magic!" Jaymes mummered to himsel before he and his personal guard rode to aid the infantry and the three newcomers. The Infantry unit, 100 men, had all the advantages it needed, more men and suprise. It was shattering the elven lines without much trouble. Within moments the elves had fled to rejoin the man Elven army, the infatry chases after. Jaymes and his bodyguard surounded the three newcomers lances extended. "Alright, no magic." Jaymes said commandingly. "I am a Level 5 Cleric of Palador. I doubt any of you could harm me. Now, who are you."

(ooc: there's only two new guys; Mat and Falon)
Mat met the knight's gaze with his own, "I am Mat Novae, second in command of The Shadows, prominent in the Erodaen." Mat took a deep breath to stop himself from adding 'whom you have forsaken', then continued, sarcasm in his voice, "Sorry about the magic, but I was trying to survive while making your army aware of 60 evil elves who were waiting to kill you from behind." Mat glanced at the man in the strange (but expensive) armor beside him. "I don't have a clue where he came from."

Falon spoke up, while not so sure of where he was himself, " I was in a battle in my homeland, and i was hit by an enemy magician's blast. It knocked me off the top of the citidal where i was with my father commanding our army. Somehow, i was saved by this wierd magician whom i'd never met before. He said it wasn't my time to die, then transported me here, healed from the wounds of the blast and everything. As to why i was just fighting, well, it seemed the right thing to do, you know, surrounded by evil looking men, not knowing anything else, and so i decided to fight. That simple." He noticed the elf eying his armor, then added, "If you couldn't tell by my armor, Im a prince from the kindgom of Dujerba, on the continent across the sea, which im guessing isn't here because of youre funny accents."

"Erodaen Elves are a welcome sight in these parts, perhaps you can explain to the Council why you did not aid us when the Fabianites attacked?" Jaymes eased himself of his horse. What appeared to be plate turned out to be thin fake pieces of armor, under this facade was only light leather armor and when he took a step forward there was a very pronounced limp. "I am General Jaymes Brand, the Crippled Warrior. And you," he said looking at Falon, "Are my prisoner. And Erodaen you are our "honored" guest." With that statement the lancers move in a little.

Falons hands gripped the handle of his swords tighter as he heard those last words. He had no idea where the heck he was, why the heck he was here, or anything like that at all. His eyes began to change in colors again as his anger rose inside of him. He spoke slowly, makeing sure they understood him, "I am not here to harm you, I am not even sure where I am. If I'm going to fast for you bunch of rabble, then I can draw pictures so that you may understand. I just fought to save myself, if you wish to take me in, you'll have to go through my swords. I may not be as numerous as you men, and the fight may be in vain, but in my country, it was counted as cowardice to surrender without fighting to the death. And I'm no coward."

Mat put a restraining hand on Falon shoulder. He had taken a liking to the man and didn't want him to needlessly be torn to pieces because he was proud. "Over here however, being captured by overwhelming numbers who would otherwise annihilate you is considered prudence. They mean only to hold you until they can be assured that you mean no harm to their country, I'm sure." Mat cast a pointed glance towards the knight at these words. "I would be glad to speak to the council. Perhaps while I explain where we were when the fabianites attack you the council could explain where heck you and the rest of the god-forsaken alliance was when our country was demolish by the freakin' orcs!" Mat knew that he was bordering on being struck down where he was, but years of bitterness were now boilings to the surface.

Falon realized that the elf was on his side, maybe the only one here that was. and he also realized the elf was about to make the same mistake he almost did. "How about we all just go in to your little city, but as friends, not enemies, that would make it eisier on everyone?"

"I may be new here, but i can see tension between people when i see it. And a few deaths here and there won't help out your country in the long run. Believe me, you'll do nothing but make things harder then your country. I'm sure your country can't handle a war with Kalor right now, on top of this obvious problem with the men who recently vacated the battlefield."

Jaymes hobbled to Mat, his eyes blazing. "And you think we were not attacked by the Orkan as well? You Erodaen are just as arrogant as your brothers." He glanced over to the raging battle. The elves were beginning to fall back. He looked to Falon. "If you knew the state Kalor was in right know, you wouls understand why we must take you prisoner for the time being. Strangers are NOT welcome."

The words stung Mat, for most of them were true. "Where were after the orcs were defeated then? You kept in contact with the dwarves, why not us? Were we not useful enough?" In the distance Mat's golem was finaly defeated by the evil elves.

Falon watched the two argue like a bunch of politicians. He hated politics when he was back at the capitol of his country. He didn't know what was coming, but he had this itching sensation in his head that something was coming, he just couldn't quite put his finger on what it was, but he knew he wasn't going to no bloody capitol city.

"Patronize you!?!" Mat yelled back. "Why in every level of hell would I try to patronize you!?! I only patronize those who could be dangerous!!!" Mat glanced at the soldiers surrounding him. Mat inconspicuously checked to make sure his own sword wasn't stuck in the ground. "Perhaps I will speak with your council, perhaps not. But not right now, I don't think. I need to consult with the leaders of the Erodaen first. Besides, you will need some time to wrap up this battle it seems. Pore soldiers, having to fight while their leader sit around having conversations. Now if you'll excuse me..." Mat started to turn and walk through the circle back to the forest, but in actuality he knew he wasn't going to be allowed out of the ring...
