Brief History: (WORK IN PROGRESS)
The Humans elves and dwarves formed the Tri-Alliance thousands upon thosands o years ago when the humans overthrew their Orcish masters, but this was not to last. The elves began to follow the evil Fabian, the antitheis of Palador and Crustai, Kalor's patron gods. A brief war insued leaving the borders much the same, many deaths, and the begining of human female baby makers in Ahmashaar. The Kalorian Knights were forced to learn basic magic to cope with the elven magic. The dwarves and Humans remain allied, and strong friends.
GODS
Palador- God of Light, fairly intolerant of Evil.
Crustai- Goddess of White Magic/Peace and consort of Palador,
Lesser Gods
Kimber-Female Warrior of Light, daughter of Palador and Crustai. Patron God of the Outriders, thus they are the only military force in Kalor to allow women in. THis is contrary to Palador's teachings and causes much strife between the Knighthood and the Riders.
Avan'Jolee- Lesser God of Red Magic.
OTHER AGENCIES
High Watchers- Internal Police Force of the Queen, the Watchers are fanatical monks of Palador. Waring traditional monk robes, and armed with short sabers, little is known of this secrtive serivce excpet that during the occcupation the reaked havoc within the elven command structure, not without loss of life however.
State of the Nation: The Kalorian Nation is in a state just short of falling apart. With the abrupt pullout of the Elven Occupational forces, and the fact that most major cities are filled with refugees from outlying villages, the Kalorians have little economy and a shattered military. When the Elves withdrew the rebel forces under command of Jaymes the Crippled Warrior, struggled to form a uniformed military. The Kalorian military is a mixture of former Knights, Outriders and militia that fled to the Fortress of Bastion during the occupations. Upon the reinstatement of Kalor as an independent nation following the Withdrawal the military is still very informal and scattered, many of the militia returned home, and the former Knights and the Outriders struggled to create a unified army. What was created is the Kalorian Army, a motley assortment of former Knights and Ouriders working together. There is no uniform, soldier use whatever they have and can buy, they are paid 4 Adamantine Bits every three months, 2 are to be used in use of weapons and armor the other 2 for day to day lives. Even in the shattered economy most people make around 5 or 6 Bits per three months. Therefore must Soldiers have another job to supplement their pay.
The government is in shambles, the royal line died with Queen Kalana, her ministers dead as well. In the aftermath of the fall of Capital City the Kalorian Remnant was run by a council of Governors from the remaining cities, this system worked for the most part as there wasn’t much to run and the defense of the Remnant was the priority. Now with the old Empire fully restored and the task of running a real nation at hand a Council of leading men and women was formed to hold together the failing nation. They hold little power, except for Jaymes Brand, who controls the army. When a decree is made the only way it is accomplished is through the use of the military. The people want, no, need a Monarch. Yet the royal line is gone, it is the duty of the Council of Five to choose a new ruler and soon for the nation is falling apart. The Elves could be regrouping, the economy is poor, and the people disheartened.
The economy is not as in bad of a shape as the government or military however. It is struggling, yes, but it slowing fixing itself as people move back to their farms and the need for carpenters, masons, and blacksmiths increase.
Religion is a controversial subject in the newly named Kalorian Protectorate, as far as the people can tell the Gods abandoned them during the war and thus the worship of the Pantheon of Light as dropped drastically. However worship of the neutral and evil gods as decreased as well. Kalor is moving from the highly religious nation to a secular one. However in recent months a number of documents and tomes have been found that refer to “Divine” magic, a number of former Knights who still wish to keep the ideals of the Pantheon alive have gone on search of these elusive tomes. The amount of magic in Kalor as died and shifted to more Neutral and Arcane magics, thus sealing the fate of the Pantheon.
However, mortals may not see in the realm or minds of the gods…
With the return of the Paladins the worship of the Pantheon has increased once again and the Kalorian nation is reemerging from the ashes. However the Council still has not elected a ruler and the military is still the motley assortment of ex-Knights and Outriders.
Just when things where looking up, the Demon War broke out across the land and once again the nation of Kalor rose up to contain the threat, yet in the aftermath of that bloody war, Kalor was weaker than it had ever been. And Fabian took advantage of that, he managed to united the scattered followers of darkness, even forcing the Land of Shadows and the Elves to work together to overthrow the human. In one fel swoop the nation of Kalor was no more. The human cities "free cities" and many of the humans have fled with the Paladins to the hills and caves around Kalor.
