The Realm of Neltaria
The two races that inhabit this realm are the Nell(merpeople) and the Averainae(Sea dragons).
Neltaria is an underwater Kingdom which resides directly beside Ahmashaar on the west bank. They frequently communicate with Ahmashaar, and few other Kingdoms even know of their existance. Their government structure is monarchial, King Quierna being the ruler at the moment.
Their language is unpronouncable by the tongues of Men, Elves, or Dwarves, but not vice-versa. While this may seem an important military advantage, it is unprecedented because the Nell seem to have little or no military interest in the world of men, probably because they live underwater. Their likeness is that of a human chest with Elven ears and lips and a dolphin's torso, and every one of them is tattooed somehow on their forehead. They do not wear clothes, and can breathe in both water and air. Little is known about their culture or their magic/military strength, except that they are in alliance with Ahmashaar. It is interesting to note that the Nell are not indiginous to this planet.
The Averainae are beasts of burden and companions to the Nell. They are able to communicate(though no one knows how) and would be the Nell's prime weapon in the event of war. Because there has never been a need to see them in action, there is just as little knowledge about them than there is about the Nell.
Many myths are spread about the mysterious Nell, however, though most of them are more likely fantasies that truth. For example, there are a few eyewitness accounts of Nell women found lying on the beach who, when awakened, were able to change their abdomen to that of an elf and stand up and walk away into the water, starting the rumors of shapeshifting. Others have claimed to have seen a Nell sitting on a rock one moment and a falcon the next. One rumor that has some claim to truth since many Nell have professed is that of lesbianism among the Nell, since many elves have been witness to Nell women near the shore engaging in promiscuous behavior in the sun or out of the water. Some elves have even been lucky enough to have been asked to join them, but I won't go into that. The most debated myth is that the males are telepathic and can read the thoughts of Elves and Half-elves, though there is basically no proof to this statement. It only arose from a long string of guesses stated by King Quierna to Triumvir Valios about the latter's affair with waitress, though the affair was common knowledge to the population and was probably told to the King on a previous occasion.
