our traditions are a part of us. though it is a part of use that we use to determine who we are.We take the traditions and make them our own. These traditions we will pass on, in one way or another. In the short story “Everyday Use” we get to see how tradition effect a family, and how each one makes something different out of it. I am going to show you how Ms. johnson, Dee, and maggie make their most of their traditions. “‘Everyday Use’ also stars a courageous black woman who succeed in spite of the odds,...” (Bowman, victor, Etal). This courageous black woman they is referring to is Ms. Jonhson (moma). who has limited schooling, no husband, and is a black woman during a time where it was not the best of things to be. “In real life I am a large, big boned woman with rough, man-working hands. In the winter I wear a flannel night gown to bed, and overalls during the day...I knocked a bull calf strait in the brain between the eyes with a sledge hammer and had the meat hung up to chill before nightfall.” (Walker, 141) This is the kind of woman ms. johnson was. she had a hard life, and learned to deal with it, and thrive the best she can. these are some of her traditions that she will hope to pass down, survival, hard work, and a strong since of who she is. “she use to read to us without pity; forcing words, lies, and other folks habits, whole live upon us two, sitting trapped, and ignorant underneath her voice. she washed us in the river of make-believe, burned us with a lot of knowledge we didn’t necessarily need to know.” (Walker, 142). Dee is the old of the two daughters. she is the one who has always had a style about her. She was alway destined for better things. though in her better things she has lost a connection with her family. “ although dee finds her mother and sister woefully backward and ignorant, the knowledge the knowledge of the outside world dee tries to force on them is knowledge they probable do not need” (Winchell, 82) This quote shows that dee has lost touch with her family, even though she might think that she was doing right to try to help her family learn. This show how careless she is with her family at the same time. not caring weather or not they could use it, but instead trying to change two of the people who are to love her no matter what. These are some of her traditions that she might pass down, knowledge, snobbish, and strong wanting to learn. “Moma frequently descries maggie as a docile, somewhat frightened animal, one who accepts the hand that fate has dealt her and attempts to flee and situation posing a potential threat.” (Gruesser, 184) Maggie has had some traumatic events that have happened to her to make her this way. Though it is not good, these events have changed her traditions a bit. Had the fire not happened she might would have been a completely different person. “‘Maggies brain is like a elephant’s.’ Wangero said, laughing.”(walker, 145) This shows that maggie has learned to value what she can in her mind, not needing something to help her, because an object can be taken away from, but your memory is yours. Here are some of Maggie’s traditions that have a chance of being passed down, her inability to stand strong in conflict, her since of what really is important, and her ability to take what life gives her. Your traditions are what you make of them. Your traditions are what you will pass down to someone someday. even though some of these characters had some negative traditions, they were doing the best they could, with what they are. I can only hope that the traditions I will pass of to the next generation are good ones.

our traditions are a part of us,that we use to determine who we are. We take the traditions and make them our own. These traditions we will pass on, in one way or another. In the short story, “Everyday Use” by Alice Walker, the reader get to see how tradition effect a family, and how each one makes something different out of it. Because of their different personalities, Mama Johnson, Dee, and maggie do what they can with there family traditions. “‘Everyday Use’ also stars a courageous black woman who succeed in spite of the odds,...” (Bowman, Victor, Etal). This courageous black woman bowman is referring to is Ms. Jonhson. who has limited schooling, no husband, and is a black woman during a time where it was not the best of things to be. Mama describes herself “In real life I am a large, big boned woman with rough, man-working hands. In the winter I wear a flannel night gown to bed, and overalls during the day...I knocked a bull calf strait in the brain between the eyes with a sledge hammer and had the meat hung up to chill before nightfall,” (Walker 141). This is the kind of woman ms. johnson is. she had a hard life, and learned to deal with it, and thrive the best she can. these are some of her traditions that she will hope to pass down, survival, hard work, and a strong since of who she is. Dee is the old of the two daughters. she is the one who has always had a style about her. She was alway destined for better things. going for better things she has lost a connection with her family. mama recalls dee “she use to read to us without pity; forcing words, lies, and other folks habits, whole live upon us two, sitting trapped, and ignorant underneath her voice. she washed us in the river of make-believe, burned us with a lot of knowledge we didn’t necessarily need to know,” (Walker 142). “although dee finds her mother and sister woefully backward and ignorant, the knowledge of the outside world dee tries to force on them is knowledge they probably do not need,” (Winchell 82). This shows that Dee has lost touch with her family, even though she might think that she was doing right to try to help her family learn. she is careless with her family at the same time, not caring weather or not they could use the information, but instead trying to change two of the people who are supposed to love her no matter what. Some of the traditions she might pass down, knowledge, snobbishness, and strong will to learn. Maggie is the younger of the two sisters that was burned in a fire. “Mama frequently describes maggie as a docile, somewhat frightened animal, one who accepts the hand that fate has dealt her and attempts to flee and situation posing a potential threat,” (Gruesser 184). Maggie has experienced some traumatic events that have that makes her the way she is. Though it is not good, these events have changed her traditions a bit. Had the fire not happened she might would have been a completely different person. Dee sees maggie as the intellectually inferior little sister. “‘Maggies brain is like a elephant’s.’ Wangero said, laughing,”(Walker 145). This shows that maggie has learned to value what she can in her mind, not needing something to help her remember because an object can be taken away from, but ones memory is their own. Here are some of Maggie’s traditions that have a chance of being passed down, her inability to stand strong in conflict, her sense of what really is important, and her ability to take what life gives her. Traditions are what you pass down. Traditions are what and who we are. Humans try to make the best of themselves. The Characters in “Everyday Use” take what they have and make it there own. They will Pass what they learned on. somethings they pass will be good, while some may be not so good.

The story of trifles was acted out on the stage of Kilgore college. The story takes place in a recently abandoned farm house, in Iowa. I time it is set in is 1916. I shall be going over the set, actors, and technical elements. As a set as a whole was decent. Even though it looked a bit like they had a low budget for the one act. They would have done a little better, but all in all ok. I did enjoy the bare wood gave you an effect of being in a older rustic house. Now for the actors, I as a whole will most likely not have many good things to say about them. Unlike in years before, the acting was sub par. The actor Shelby Orwick played the part of Henry peters Sheriff. The sheriff as a whole did not have many lines, and I felt that Orwick did not do the part justice. He did not feel like a sheriff. George henderson Was played by dale shelton. Shelton did a decent job at his part. One of his major problems was the fact that there was no transition through emotions, It was very choppy. Lewis hale, The neighboring farmer was played by Blake Winn. Winn did a wonderful job at his character. Even though his character was not a very round character. He stayed in character the entire time. I never saw a difference. The Part of Mrs. Peters is played by the beautiful Tiffany Carr. Carr’s character was played for the most part well, though like with the others she has major issues with her emotion transition. Mrs. HAle is played by Cassia Roach. Roach does a decent job of portraying this character. Though I am not happy to see her in the same roll over and over. They may not be the same roll, but Roach plays the parts the same. If she wants to stay out of being type cast she will have to work and change that up a bit. Like almost all of the cast she will have to work on her transitions. With the limited number of aspiring, talented actors attending Kilgore Collage, they did the best with what they could. Though not as good as many recent years. The cast need to work on the emotional traditions. I do not want to see actor that can only show the extremes. I want those that can show me how to get there, and make me believe that they are really experiencing the emotion. And just for future reference they should never have the dean make a public service announcement about domestic violence after this play. If the student who watched it was not smart enough to understand that themselves, then they do not deserve the knowledge of the play. The Technical staff did a much better job that the last time I was there. This time I did not see a random arm sticking out onto the stage. The only fault I can say that lies with the technical staff was the sounds of the “cold” outside in the beginning. Lasted way to long, the desired effect was created, and then killed because they bored the audience. well I am glad that they are done with this play and cannot wait to see them in a midsummers nights dream. I do hope that they improve. I would hate to see the Kilgore theater department destroy there good reputation, with another shabby performance.

Humans have been using symbols to convey meaning since the beginning of time. The Cave man drew pictures on cave walls. They used the pictures to tell there stories. The ancient Egyptians used symbols to mean words. The Christian peoples have used the “Black Devil” to incite fear into the heart of sinful peoples. The Jolly Roger was used by pirates to cause fear into the heart of merchant ships. Gangs use hand signs or symbols to show there pride in what they are and where they come from. Ernest Hemingway use Setting, use of speech, and objects to convey his meanings in the short story “Hills like white elephants”. Setting is very important in any story, theatrical performance, and life. Without setting the mood would not be right when two young people are about to kiss for the first time. A story without a setting is a human without a brain. The setting is a tool use to tell you about the world around what is happening. This world around someone can also symbolize things, as we see in Hemingways “Hills like white elephants” “The hills across the valley of Ebro more long and white on ether side, there was no shade, no trees and the station sat between to tracks in the sun,”(Himmingway). The setting is of a dry, open lonely place. A place where there is almost no life. This is symbolic of the couples relationship, and their unborn child that is about to be killed. The train station at this time represents a choice of directions of where to go. They can go on with what they are going to do, or they can make another choice and head a different direction, as represented by the tracks. “The second time they are mentioned, they are contrasted by the countryside which is brown and dry, which suggest the limitations and aridly of the relationship between the man and woman,”(Weeks 75). Again the setting is based around what is thought of as life and what is though of as death. We associate darker colors with death. the is meaning that Hemingway was trying to get across through use of setting as a symbol was that there relationship was dead, like the area around them. “the shadow of a cloud moved across the field of grain, and she saw the river through the trees,”(Hemingway) This quote uses a setting in comparison with the setting that they are in. This is a symbol for how life can be different from what the life they have right now, if only they had made better decisions. Speech is one of the main methods of communication between humans. through speech you can learn so much about a person. Wether they are mad and have a raided tone, or there tone could be quivering indication that they are sad. “I love it, I love it, but I Just cant think about it. You know how i get when I worry.”(Hemingway) The reader can feel the tension, and annoyance in his voice. “I don’t worry because it is perfectly simple.” (Hemingway) Even in such a simple line as this the reader can see the man belittling the woman through his words. “Many of his characteristics , are imbued with the subtle characteristics that show there complicated world around them,” (O’Donnel 1). the characteristics that O’Donnel is referring to come through there speech. Most of the story is told through speech. With the man you find out that he is a inconsiderate jerk. While with the girl you find that she is very manipulative woman that knows a lot more than she lets on. Though the man is very insecure with his knowledge. He also has a inferiority complex toward the woman. “In all the man’s power in the story is based on cultural sources of authority,” (Joseph 36). Even the conclusions the reader is suppose to come to are indicated through the symbols in the speech. “‘there is nothing wrong with me’ she says and we finally understand the white elephant was never the abortion or the unborn child itself, It was always the man,”(Ranken 237). Every great writer has used objects to represent something other than what it is. Himingway was no exception. The white elephant was one of the main symbols is “the hills like White elephants” even in the title the elephant is there. the reader can take the elephant to mean something majestic and royal. The white elephant is a rarity in nature, which give it value. The symbol also I a reference to the unborn child, or at least as the reader is lead to believe.(weeks) The elephant is a bit symbol. A elephant is a big thing. Though Himingway also you used many small objects as symbols the beaded curtain in the doorway was used to show how simple it was to escape the situations, but at the same time it showed how hard it was to see outside, which is more of which decision to make. The drinks also showed the mundane and emptiness of there lives. It also shows the few powers the man has, it through the money and the buying of drinks.(weeks) Hemmingway was one of the great writers of his time. Through his use of settings to set the mood, his intelligently designed linguistics battles, to his use of object to convey meaning within the mind. His use of symbols in every aspect of his writing is what helped make him great.

My Health Care Paper The profession I am choosing to go into Is the nursing profession. A nurse works in collaboration with a team of medical experts who work for the betterment of the people that are under to care of the members of the hospital. The history of Nurses. The first documented nurses were nuns/sisters of charity, They were around 1635. The First nurses were honored in 1975, They were the first certified nurses. in 1645 the first hospital was established in the future united states. In 1656 the First field medics were the sisters of Charity. These are the ground work for what would later become modern nursing. Without these events things as we know would be completely different. Some of the duties as nurse, include drawing blood, taking of vital signs, monitoring of the patients, And in control of the over all well being. As a nurse you are the means of communication to the higher ups. You as a nurse are what helps that patient on a daily basis, The doctor sees them for only a fraction of a time. The nurse is who the patient gets to know, the Nurse is who the patient trust, The nurse is who the patient relies on. The patient come to relies on the nurse for there lives. As a nurse In the ER said, “without a nurse the doctor knows nothing.” Some of the good things about this Career is that I get to help people. I personally hate hospitals. Though the last time I was in one, There was this Russian nurse that just made me feel like a person while I was in pain on those late nights that I would not sleep. I do hope that I can return to favor to all the patients I come across. The pay would Is not bad, I will say. Though the hours can be bad, and being surrounded by death. He will be a constant co-worker for me. As I learned in the ER. As a nurse my options are nearly limitless, I can work anywhere, and I can move up to management. I felt through my observations that I would love this job, and enjoy it immensely, even with death as a coworker. I do believe that I have all the necessary personally traits to be a nurse, Even though I may not show it I actually care about people, and I am a understanding person. My second choice as a career is a paramedic, as a paramedic I would be administering Emergency medicine, and save lives. My Third would be a pharmacist. As a paramedic I would be riding in the ambulance, as a first responder. While the more boring job would be the pharmacist. I would be in a pharmacy, having to constantly learn about drugs and technics on how to apply them. With the Paramedic after I get my EMT I will spend a year in the program and be a paramedic. While with the Pharmacist I will at least have to do four years at pharmacist school. Even though the money is better with the pharmacist, I would prefer the paramedic to it. The pharmacist makes over $100,000, The paramedic can make about $45,000. Both of these careers are in demand, I do not see ether of them going away any time soon. My plan to accomplish my goals are in 2009-2010 is to go to Tyler junior collage finishing up most of my basics, and anything needed for the program. The 2010 fall semester I will be getting my Anatomy and physiology two out of the way, While getting my EMT basic training. I will be applying for the RN program at Tyler Junior Collage, the nursing Is a two year program. If I am not accepted them I shall be doing the paramedic program. As a ER nurse this will be good training. I will still be trying to get into the nursing program every chance I get. I am working as hard as I can to get into it. After I get My Rn I will be moving away from tyler, because I am not that much of a fan of it, and I can make more money somewhere else and be closer to family. I hope that I can travel the world and help people with my nursing. www.absoluteastronomy.com/topics/Timeline_of_nursing_history

Case one was a reattachment of the triceps ligament. The nurse I was watchings job was to go for this, and go for that. though she could no enter the sanitary zone. The surgeon who was in there has a wonderful talent with his hands. The way he attachment the ligament back together. Case two was a “simple” operations , A debreavement of a wound on a woman's foot. This operation was a quick thirty minute procedure. This was done by cutting into the open wound and removing all the puss and infected tissue. There were two rotating nurses in this one. this operation was fast and hectic. I arrived at the ER at 6 o’clock. The start of the day was making sure all the room were stocked. The first patient emitted to the ER was 67 year old woman. She had called the Paramedics complaining of shortness of breath, and breathing had been stopping. When the paramedics arrived of the scene she was pass out and not breathing. The paramedics had been breathing from her for about a half hour when she got there. After many attempts to revive her. She was pronounced dead at 7:41 am. The next patient was a 13 year old female. She had been in the back seat of a car when it ran into a tree. Of course she had not been wearing her seatbelt. She was air mailed to us from gilmer. They thought she had a fracture of the femor. It turned out she was really lucky, and only walked away with about 14 stitches. After the patient things got busy. I got to see so many Ekg’s, IV’s started. blood taken, rooms remade for the next patient, and many cathiders put in . It all starts to run together. The bad thing about just following a nurse around is that I have no idea what became of the patients after the first types of work was done on them. some patients would be complaining of chest pains, others were having abdominal pains, will other had been vomiting for a week. most of the patients were older people. Though there were two people from the prison there. one had been trying to kill himself, with the other had a ruptured bladder. which had to have saline filtered through it, till the bleeding stopped. I did get to help stock the IV kits. From the patients running together, and the hours working against some of them I got to meet one of my constant coworker, Death. He Said hi to me in the morning, and bye to me as I left. I have already mentioned the above death. the last patient I was a 47 year old, heavy set woman. I was not told what was wrong with her, but she had stopped breathing, and her heart had stopped. She was pronounced dead at 6: 45 pm.

Marriage has been a establishment since the beginning of written time. From the Adem and eve to my mother and father. At least two thousand years of written history. From this point on there was a psychological push for a man to take a wife. even If the words have been changed over the year for many different reasons. The relationship has been called, a merging of two to one, The ultimate sacrifice, The Love that knows no bounds, The romeo and juliet, The good old ball and chain, marriage, partnership, A love affair. The words have ranged far and wide but in the end that partnership was the same. The duties may have changed as time progressed, but end the end the Meanings remained the same. Though there are times where the meaning get skewed. In the plays Trifles, and A Doll’s House show how this can happen through the idea’s of the characters. The attitude of the males in these two stories could not be more of anything but brutish. From the men in trifles, “nothing here but kitchen things.” or “Well. women are use to worrying over trifles.” The men in this play not only think of there wives as simpletons, but at women as a whole. The men make generalities, which lead them to miss the meaning of there life and duties as husbands. while the husband in A Doll’s House knows nothing of what a real marriage is to be about. “ the matter must be hushed up at any cost. as for you and me everything between us are just as before- but naturally only in the eyes of the world.” This mans only care if what the world thinks, his actions should be focused on his house and home. With the woman who he claims to love. The world has skewed his thoughts on life. The women of these plays view of life was skewed by the world they lived in. Which would include the men in there lives. “but our home is nothing, but a play room. I have been your doll wife, just as I was papa’s doll child. and here the children have been my dolls.” Nora in a Doll’s House has figured out a bit of the world around her. her morals and ideals have been skewed by never being able to become who she is, due to the fact that all her life she has been treated like a “doll”. In Trifles Mrs. Hale says it perfectly, “wright was close. I think maybe that is why she kept so much to herself. She didn’t even belong to the ladies aid. I suppose she felt she couldn’t due her part, and then you don’t enjoy things when you feel shabby,”. Even the world we live in and the ones we live with can skew the way we think about our daily lives. From the facts of what her husband did to her, by the mental abuse. The the fact of the town people not being able to help. All added to the disadvantage of mrs. Wright. The world we live in can become skewed many times. We just have to hope that we as men and women have the understanding to put things back in place. If we do not try to understand each other thing well get off track even worse than they would if we knew nothing of each other, males and females. Our roles are different in marriage. our roles can be different in Life. If we try to understand each other then we have a chance of making the world a better place.

Critic of the plays The first play I went to was a high school version of Cinderella. The Cast and Crew did a good job with the cards they were give. They had to make due with a gym to set there stage in. The acoustics were completely off. In a musical play there needs to be good acoustics. The member of the school band were not a skilled all around as they should have been, but they were trying. the set design was genuinely cheep, but it worked for what is was. Besides all these little things the play seemed to have a professional touch to it. All the actors were in there parts, the singing was wonderful, and the pie during intermission was amazing, just saying. The second play I attended was a Midsummers Nights Dream. Lets start with the set design. It was fabulous, not only did it look amazing. The set was also very functional. The set had to handle pucks hanging, swinging, and climbing. the costume design was for the most part perfect. Besides a few minor mistakes on the details of the wardrobe. which only someone who is looking for the little things would have noticed. So besides the few flaw there were seemingly spectacular. This by far has been one of the best performances with this set of students. I was pleasantly surprised at the cast as a whole. though one actress played the part as she does all other things. I did not see any real acting from her. Though I am glad to say, that the male cast did a terrific job. with there mannerism, and bringing the characters to life. The female character were done wonderfully, with the exception of the before mentioned.
